What People Don’t Always See Behind PTSD & Surviving
What People Don’t Always See Behind PTSD & Surviving
When people see PTSD & Surviving, they may see the posts, the quotes, the dragonflies, the workbooks, the blog, and the words of encouragement.
What they may not see is the person behind all of it.
I didn’t create this page because I had everything figured out. I didn’t start sharing because I had reached some perfect place where the past no longer affected me.
I created it because I know what it feels like to survive things that change you.
I know what it is like to look strong on the outside while carrying things quietly on the inside. I know what it is like to keep going because you feel like you have no other choice. And I know how exhausting it can become when everyone sees your strength but doesn’t always see what it costs you to be strong.
For a long time, I thought surviving meant pushing through.
Keep going.
Handle it.
Don’t fall apart.
Take care of everyone else.
Figure it out somehow.
But I’ve learned that surviving and healing are not the same thing.
Healing has meant learning things I was never taught.
It has meant learning that I can have boundaries and still care about people.
It has meant learning that saying no does not make me a bad person.
It has meant realizing that emotions do not disappear simply because I push them down.
It has meant accepting that some days I will feel strong and other days I may simply need to rest.
And it has meant understanding that I do not have to have everything figured out before I can offer encouragement to someone else.
I am still learning too.
There are things I write about because I have lived them. Sometimes the words I share are reminders I need just as much as anyone reading them.
There are days when I feel confident about how far I have come, and there are other days when something can bring an old feeling back unexpectedly.
That does not erase the progress.
Healing has never looked like a straight line in my life.
Sometimes it has looked like taking a big step forward.
Sometimes it has looked like finally setting a boundary.
Sometimes it has looked like recognizing something I once accepted was actually hurting me.
And sometimes healing has simply looked like making it through the day and trying again tomorrow.
That is part of why PTSD & Surviving matters so much to me.
I want this to be a place where people don’t have to pretend that healing is easy.
A place where strength doesn’t mean never struggling.
A place where people can be reminded that their experiences matter, their feelings matter, and they are allowed to take care of themselves too.
Not every message I share will be for every person on every day. We are all in different places, carrying different stories and learning different things.
But if something I write helps even one person feel understood, think differently about what they have been through, set one boundary, ask for support, or show themselves a little more compassion, then sharing it mattered.
I am not standing on the other side of healing telling everyone how to get there.
I am walking through it too.
I am learning, rebuilding, creating, making mistakes, changing my mind, trying again, and becoming more aware of what I need along the way.
PTSD & Surviving is part of that journey.
And behind every post is a real person who is still learning what it means not only to survive—but to build a life beyond survival.
If you are still figuring that out too, you are not alone.
